Your Timeless Journey Awaits...

Known as the “endless plains” in the Maasai dialect

Covering almost 30 000 square kilometres, this area plays host to the largest and longest overland migration on Earth. Approximately two million animals form The Great Migration, consisting of herbivores such as Wildebeest, Zebra and Thomson’s Gazelle, followed closely by lions and other predators. The dramatic quality of this epic seasonal journey is an enthralling and deeply moving experience that leads to some spectacular game viewing.

The Serengeti National Park itself forms part of a large conservation area, encompassing the adjacent Ngorongoro Conservation Area, as well as the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. With no fences or man-made barriers, huge numbers of wildlife are able to move freely throughout this area providing uninhibited wildlife viewing.

One of the ten natural travel wonders of the world

Regarded as one of the ten natural travel wonders of the world, the awe-inspiring migration across the vast grasslands of the Serengeti is a semi-annual occurrence induced by rainfall and the availability of grasslands on which to graze, with the herd crossing the Serengeti into the Maasai Mara in Kenya. Although it is an unpredictable event, taking place at different times every year, the best time to plan your trip to Tanzania or Kenya to view it is between June and August when the animals gather and prepare for the famous Grumeti River crossing.

There are various luxury lodges and camps in this area where one can view this thrilling natural phenomenon up close. Considered by many to be the quintessential African safari experience, a trip to the Serengeti will not soon be forgotten.
