Colonised by Portugal in 1505, Mozambique has a strong colonial heritage and an interesting recent past, including a civil war that waged for 15 years. Since peace was reached in 1992, the warmth of its people and the beauty of its landscapes have brought many visitors to the country and helped it to prosper.
The best time to visit Mozambique is over the dry, winter season, May – November. December to April is the rainy summer season, although it has sporadic downpours and then the sun comes out. Note that January – February is possible cyclone season and we don’t recommend travelling to the islands over this period.
